Hasmatul is s successful member of Bakshi Baba SHG under RGMVP in Churiharan ka Purwa of Kalakankar block. Her SHG is about seven years old. There are four members in her family i.e. husband, wife, a son and a daughter. Family is landless. She was very poor before joining the group. After joining SHG, she has taken total assistance to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh on five occasions for various activities as under:

  1. Rs 60, 000 for a cosmetics and bangles shop. Her investment in this activity was gradual. She started with a small loan of Rs. 5000 from the SHG to start it. Then she took Rs. 15, 000 to expand it. Again she availed Rs. 40, 000 for further expansion of business. The shop is in Lalabazar market. Hasmatul herself is running this shop.
  2. Rs 40, 000 to open a mobile shop for her son in Lalabazar market.
  3. Rs 50, 000 for repayment of old debt (principal and interest) of moneylender, which the family had borrowed earlier at the interest rate of 120 % per annum. Getting rid of the moneylender was a great relief to the family.

From the above two shops, she is earning about Rs 1000 daily and family is out of poverty. She was illiterate but now after coming in to the group she can sign. Her husband Haider Ali assists her in running the cosmetic shop. The family gives whole credit for coming out of poverty to her self-help group, which is running well.
