Chamela Devi, member of Saraswati SHG is a successful woman under RGMVP in Asalpur village of Baba Bhelkarnath block in Pratapagad district of Uttar Pradesh. Her husband died 5 years back and now there are six members in this family. The family owns only less than 10 biswa of land. Two of her sons are working as labour and third son is school going. Before joining the self-help group, she was very poor.  After joining the SHG, she took the following loans from SHG:

  1. Rs 5, 000 for goat rearing
  2. Rs 40, 000 for purchase of a pregnant buffalo. It is likely to come under lactation soon.

Chamela’s husband is no more. Her goat rearing activity was profitable. She has taken a wise decision to invest in dairy activity. Chamela has very high hope to come out of poverty.  Once the calving of Buffalo takes place, she can start sale of milk and have daily income. She is an illiterate woman and after joining the group she is learning to put signature. Her SHG is 7 years old and running well. She says that after death of  husband,  SHG has come to her rescue.
