INDS 199. (March 31, 2019): Chanda : Transformation from wage earner to business owner:

 

Chanda is a successful member of Laxmi SHG in Laxmanpur village of Bababelkharnath bock in Pratapgad district. She is landless. There are six members in the family i.e. husband, wife, two daughters, a son and mother-in-law. Before coming in SHG husband was driving vehicle of others on daily wages basis. After joining the group she has taken cumulative assistance of Rs 80,000 from the group for various activities as under:

  1. Rs 45, 000 on two occasions i.e., Rs 25, 000 and Rs 20,000 for purchase of 3-wheeler ( Tempo) for self-employment of her husband.
  2. Rs 25, 000 on two occasions i.e., Rs 15000 and Rs 10,000 to establish tailoring shop in neighboring market at Sonahi.
  3. Rs 10, 000 towards purchase of a buffalo.

Now the family has three income generation activities i.e. sale of milk, earning from 3- wheeler transport business and tailoring shop. Family has come out of poverty and family members are enjoying happy life. She is educated up to 8th class and all her children are school going. Husband who was working as driver on the vehicles of others is now a business owner (tempo transport owner). The family owns two businesses and also dairy. This change in the status could be possible only because of SHG. Chanda is very frank in talking and she gives high weightage to her group.
