A Story of Perseverance and Determination

Hina 21, comes from a village of Raja Mao in Bachrawa Block. She is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Science degree with Home Science as a subject. She has been a part of Kanak Yuwa Mahila Swayam Sahayta Samooh, since 2013. She borrowed 4000 rs to pay her graduation fees, which she later repaid by sewing clothes and earning money.

“If we go by the usual norms of the society, the girls of my age are usually married in my village, but I fought with my parents and told them that I wouldn’t marry until and unless II become a nurse, and earn my own money that is my dream”

Currently, Hina is pursuing her BSC final year and is preparing for her nursing examination. Her main dream is to serve those in need and according to her she can do that by being a care giver and being a nurse.

Having joined the SHG, she has acquired knowledge on family planning, menstrual health and hygiene and self-defence.

“We learned about the 7 Bandhans that a woman goes through, not only did I overcome the Bandhan of my Clothes and removed the veil off, but I also removed the veil of the old conventional thoughts and beliefs that existed in our society by stepping out of my house and pursuing my education instead of getting married”

Hina claims that whenever she gets married she will have only one kid, so that she can focus fully on it. “Family planning is very necessary in today’s time, especially when the cost of living is so high, I would plan my family when I get married”

Hina is currently studying, and is also an active part of YWSHG, she also forms other SHGs in her village, so that others could benefit from it and acquire knowledge just like she did.
