I 222. (June 04, 2019): Rajkumari – An example of unleashing woman’s potential:
She is Rajkumari, member of Jai Ma Sherawali SHG under RGMVP in Itahia Deohat village of Baskhari block. She belongs to a very poor family having less than one bigha of land and six members comprising of husband, herself, two sons and two daughters. Husband is working as casual labour. Rajkumari had studied up to intermediate. Joining the SHG helped her to come out of the four walls of her home and bring out her inner capabilities. Learning and exposure through SHG, Vo and Bo helped her to gain confidence as a woman to connect to the outside world and develop her leadership skills. She is now involved in social work in RGMVP as meeting sakhi, guiding other SHGs of the village. After joining the self-help group she availed financial assistance of Rs 70,000 on different occasions as under:
- Rs 5, 000 for cultivation.
- Rs 10, 000 for daughter’s education.
- Rs 30, 000 for purchase of buffalo.
- Rs 25, 000 for opening a shop of Computer lab/ Jan Seva Kendra.
Now Rajkumari has three income generation activities i.e. sale of buffalo milk, computer shop and cultivation. From the income generated out of these activities, life of the family members has become easy and the family is out of poverty. At present her computer shop is running in a rented room. Her next step is to construct a room on her own land by taking necessary financial support of the group. Her existing shop will be transferred in this room. Her both the daughters are married off after completing graduation. Eldest son is managing the computer shop after intermediate and the youngest son is school going. Entire family is happy and Rajkumari gives very high weightage to her group, which is well operated.
