I 234. (July 02, 2019):  Asha – Financial security through SHG :

She is Asha, a successful member of Jai Ma Durge SHG under RGMVP in Basudeopur village of Bikapur block in Faizabad district. There are 6 members in her family i.e. husband, herself, three daughters and a son. She has just one bigha of land with no other source of income except what they produced through sustenance agriculture. Thus, prior to joining group, Asha’s family was living in poverty. After coming in SHG in 2014, she had availed following financial support from the group:

  1. Rs 10, 000 to open a cloth shop in the village.
  2. Rs 15, 000 for expansion of the above cloth shop.
  3. Rs 15, 000 for education of the children.
  4. Rs 25, 000 for purchase of a two-wheeler. Apart from selling the clothes in the village, her husband carries the bundles of clothes for selling the same in nearby markets. The 2-wheeler was purchased using loan from SHG for carrying the stock to the market. With the surplus generated from the shop, she has purchased three cows. She has also purchased 10 biswa of land on temporary pledge basis. Now she is cultivating 1.5 bigha of land.   As such there are three income generation activities with the family i.e. sale of milk, cultivation and cloth shop. Monthly income of the family is on an average between Rs14, 000 and Rs 15, 000. Family is now above poverty line and members are enjoying happy life.  Asha is educated up to 8th class and all her children are educated/school going. For this rapid transformation in the family condition, she gives credit to her SHG, which is well operated.
