I 237. (July 06, 2019): Kalawati paves her path out of poverty:
Kalawati is a member of Jai Ma Santoshi SHG under RGMVP in Palia village of Harringtonganj block in Faizabad district. She has seven members in the family comprising of 3 sons, 2 daughters, husband and herself. She has 2 bigha of land. Kalawati was very poor before coming in the group. Her husband and 2 sons were working as casual labour. After joining SHG in 2014, she availed total financial assistance of Rs 85, 000 on four occasions for undertaking different activities:
- Rs 10, 000 for treatment of her husband.
- Rs 15, 000 for goat rearing.
- Rs 20, 000 for daughter’s marriage.
- Rs 40, 000 for opening of a general stores business on roadside in Harringtonganj market (for making of one wooden kiosk and purchase of general stores items)
Apart from cultivation on her 2 bigha of land, she has now 2 additional income generation activities i.e. goat rearing and general stores. From the income generated out of these activities, poverty of the family is greatly reduced and family members are enjoying happy life. Kalawati is illiterate but her all the children are educated. Her status as a woman changes since she joined SHG. She now has confidence and self esteem which she lacked before SHG. She is respected in the family and she is proud that she too could contribute to the livelihood of the family. She gives credit of happiness of the family to her group, which is running well.
