I 271. (October 30, 2019) : Ramrati’s journey out of poverty:

Ramrati is a successful member of Jai Santoshi Ma SHG under RGMVP in Kodra village of Kalakankar block of Pratapgad district. There are 6 members in her family i.e. husband, herself, 3 daughters and a son. She has 3 bigha of land out of which 5 biswa of cultivable land was temporarily pledged to moneylender to borrow money to treat her son who fell ill. Ramrati was poor before joining SHG. She came in group in 2010 and after joining SHG, she has taken following financial support:

  1. Rs 5, 000 for payment to the moneylender to free her 5 biswa land.  She has taken her land back and is now cultivating the same herself.
  2. Rs 10, 000 for purchase of goats for goat rearing.
  3. Rs 30, 000 for digging of pond and rearing of fish in her land. From this fisheries business, she has earned more than Rs 1.00 lakh.
  4. Rs 20, 000 for purchase of buffalo.

From the surplus generated out of these activities, she has started a pig rearing activity. Thus with the needed support of the SHG, she has taken up 5 income generation activities and now her income is between Rs. 15, 000 and Rs. 20, 000 per month. The family is out of poverty and family members are living a happy life. She is an illiterate woman but after joining group she learned to put her signature instead of thump impression. Her children are school going. For this transformation in her economic condition and living status of the family Ramrati gives full credit to her group, which is running well.
