191. (March 29, 2019): Kalawati: Invested in livelihood opportunities
Kalawati is a member of Jai Maa Durge self-help group from Karpia Village, in Amethi district.
I have been a part of the SHG from the past 10 years. Before being a part of the SHG, I faced extreme poverty and did not have enough resources to feed my family as I did not have a single source of livelihood, affording even the bare necessities was very difficult.
Being a part of the SHG, I have learned the importance of savings and investment in different livelihood activities. One of the major investment was when I took Rs 15000 and purchased 10 sheep. Now, I have more than 100 sheep which has become a continuous source of income. All my children are studying.
After joining the SHG I was able to pave a workforce which was to mobilize other women as a way social change.
