Kewalpati is a successful woman of Bajrang Baba SHG in Itara village of Salon block in Amethi district. The family of Kewalpati has six members and it possesses just one bigha land. Before coming into the group, her family was in the grip of poverty. SHG came to its rescue. After joining the group, she took a loan of Rs. 5000 from her SHG for cultivating the family land. Gaining confidence, her next loan was of Rs. 10, 000 that she invested to start a micro-enterprise viz. a provision store. Her store is by the roadside and it is running well.

Her third loan was for purchasing a milch buffalo that started giving her another immediate income through the sale of milk. She also took another Rs, 30,000 from the group as working capital for expanding her provision store. With the earnings from three income generation activities i.e. cultivation, the sale of milk and kirana (provision) shop. Kevalpati’s economic condition has improved considerably. There is a tremendous transformation in the status of the family members too. Finally, the family is declaring that they have come out of poverty. Kewalpati is an illiterate housewife but she manages the affairs of the house very well. She attaches high importance to her group. She says, “I have got recognition in the society because of my SHG which is running well for the last 5 years”. All her four children are going to school. Kevalpati is able to visualize a bright future for her family.
