NARAYANI: LIVING A SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY CONFIDENT LIFE
Narayani, a successful goat-rearer from Haidargarh region of Barabanki district has embarked on a journey of self-sufficiency by adopting best practices in goat -rearing after getting trained through Entrepreneurship cum Training Centre set up by the Village Federation of SHGs of RGMVP. The journey of being self-sufficient was not so simple for her. Being a part of caste-laden society with poverty disturbing the normal course of livelihood and earning, she didn’t even dream that SHG and livelihood from goatery would give her an identity where she will motivate other women also to follow her footsteps. She became a member of Self-Help group in September 2009. A few years back when she was not having any major source of income, through economic cum training centers for goat-rearing and selling, she got the opportunity to nurture the goats of other SHG women on adhiya – a benefit-sharing platform where takes care of the goat of other women and benefit earned through goats is shared between the two. She says, “Everyone would have the information, but about those who are bound inside the four walls of a house? It is only when they come out, they will know about the opportunities,we started noticing the change when we started attending the SHG meetings” . Narayani has taken a total loan of 15,000 and invested in activities such as goatery and for building her house. She is economically and socially confident woman now.
