Shashi is a member of Aarti self-help group, in Kedarnath Kheda village, of Hilauli block, in Unnao district. She joined her SHG in the year 2016.

“Before joining the SHG, I had no information regarding my basic rights and entitlements. Though I was an MA pass, I still used to struggle with talking in public, my education did not give me the confidence to speak. It was only after joining the YWSHG that it gave me confidence. YWSHG became my second school.”

Shashi joined Young Woman self-help group, after seeing her mother who was a part of a self-help group in the village. I was enticed by my mother’s meeting of SHG, the way people used to sit in the circle and put their queries forward, It was seeing that I joined YWSHG. Earlier, I used to sit at the back so that I did not have to speak, but later I gained confidence.

After getting married, I joined Aarti woman self-help group.

After joining the SHG, she learned about financial inclusion and started to save monthly. She took money from her SHG on various occasions –

Rs 10,000 for agricultural purposes

Rs 50,000 for peppermint production

Rs 50,000 for construction of the house

Shashi is now a leader and a valuable agricultural resource person, facilitating seed and organic farming. Her 2 children both go to school.

“Through the help of my SHG, I got information on sustainable agricultural techniques. Now, I use 18 days compost in my field, I make jivamrit, and plant seeds according to SWI and SRI techniques. The productivity of my grains has increased. The output is more than the input, the grains produced are more refined and of good quality. Not only my agricultural productivity increased, but I also gained confidence. I’m now an empowered woman both financially and otherwise.”
