She is Shivpati, a successful woman of Kashyap SHG in Piparpur village of Bhadar block in Amethi district. Kashyap SHG was formed in 2006. There are 8 members in the family of Shivpati i.e. husband, wife, 5 daughters and 1 son. She has just 8 biswa of land. The family was facing acute poverty before Shivpati joined the group. It was indebted to the moneylender.  After coming into the group she has taken following financial assistance:

  1. Rs 5, 000 for the purchase of goats. This investment grew and by now she has sold goats worth more than Rs. 50, 000
  2. Rs 10, 000 to repay the old debt of the moneylender.
  3. Rs 15, 000 for the purchase of one buffalo heifer, which has already become milch buffalo and presently running in the 4th lactation.

4.Rs 20, 000 for daughter’s marriage.

Shivpati is also cultivating 1.5 bighas of land taken on batai (lease). As such she has three income generation activities i.e. goat tearing, the sale of milk and cultivation. The family has come out of the poverty and family members are happy. Although she is educated only up to 5thclass, she has focused much on the education of her children, a visible impact of her SHG association. Her two daughters are married off after intermediate and remaining are getting an education in better school. She is a changed woman full of confidence. She does not have to depend on moneylenders any more. It is her empowered status and knowledge in agricultural practices, which she gained through her SHG that empowered her to take land on lease and cultivate it for livelihood. She has maximum faith in her SHG, which is running well.
